Insurance for carpenters. Tailored to how you work.

As a carpenter, proper insurance coverage is vital for staying protected when you’re out on a job. And whatever the project, there are plenty of risks that could crop up. Whether a customer accidentally trips over an extension cord or a tool is accidentally broken, you’ll need the right coverage to keep you protected. Otherwise, compensation claims or costs to replace tools could come out of your own pocket.

That’s why we’ve created a flexible carpentry insurance policy. Get essential cover included as standard, and a range of cover limit options and add-on policies available to suit your day-to-day risks.

What’s included as standard:

  • Public Liability

    Public Liability

  • Goods and Tools

    Goods and Tools

Protects the items in transit against damage, misdelivery and accidental delay under a ‘Hire & Reward’. Tools cover protects against damage and loss for Tools in the way of payment for replacing items new for old based upon purchase value. £2,500 of cover as standard, limits available up to £20,000.

  • Employers' Liability

    Employers' Liability

Covering any injury to an employee. £10,000,000 any one claim limit with no facility to alter/remove.

Optional covers

On top of our core package, we also offer additional covers, so you can get the best policy for how you and your carpentry business work.

Our Carpenter Insurance: FAQs

  • Does a carpenter need public liability insurance?

While it isn’t a legal requirement in the UK, many tradies, including carpenters, choose to hold public liability insurance. We’d highly recommend that you understand what public liability insurance is for trades so you can decide if it’s for you. It’s also important to consider that many principal contractors and clients will contractually require you to hold a minimum level of public liability cover, usually starting at £2million, before they allow you to start work. At Kingsbridge, we include Public Liability insurance as standard in our Carpenter Insurance package, so you don’t have to worry about whether you’re covered or not!

  • What insurance do I need as a self-employed carpenter?

As a self-employed carpenter, the foundation of your insurance should be public liability insurance, which is already included in our Carpenter Insurance. If you employ anyone, even apprentices, then you’ll likely be legally required to have employer’s liability insurance too.

  • How much is carpenter insurance?

Every quote can be different because the cost depends on the size of your business and the way you work. To get a fair price, submit your details, and we’ll create a tailored quote. Don’t worry about hidden costs or catches. Our Price Promise means our customers get the cover they need at the best price.

  • Will all my tools also be covered?

Most handheld kit and power tools can be covered under our Goods and Tools cover. After all, you need them to get your job done. Our Carpenter’s Insurance package includes up to £2.5k of cover as standard, so you don’t have to worry about covering costs if your essential equipment is stolen or damaged. For larger machinery or equipment, you can also add optional Hired in Plant or Owned Plant cover to your policy.
