Background
Kingsbridge customer Mrs A has been a freelancer in brand and creative comms for the last 9 years. She works predominantly internationally and has worked with a wide range of clients, from start-ups and small businesses to large organisations such as the UN and London School of Economics.
The Challenge
Mrs A, who runs a freelance communications business, has never made a claim on her contractor insurance policy. However, she experienced two incidents, several years apart, that led her to seek advice from the experts at Kingsbridge.
On both occasions, Mrs A said she was being asked to do something that fell outside of the contract. Unsure of whether she would have to make a claim on her insurance policy, she spoke to her claims manager at Kingsbridge, sharing evidence of her contract and what was required of her.
The Result
Following the advice Mrs A received from her claims manager, she felt empowered to go back to the client, confident in the fact that she had concrete facts to back up her argument. She knew that if the client pushed back and decided to take her to court, she had insurance in place to protect her.
Mrs A says, “When you work for yourself and you have an expert who tells you, ‘It doesn’t seem like you’ve done anything wrong,’ it’s so reassuring to know that what you’re doing is right. The process of contacting Kingsbridge was quick and easy. I sent an initial email, and they emailed me back the same day, which was really good. It was great to be able to forward emails that I was receiving so that they could take a look and see what they thought. I felt like the claims handler really understood me and was on my side.”
She explains, “Kingsbridge was recommended to me by my accountancy firm. For me, having experts who can help me run my business effectively is essential, so having Kingsbridge’s services in place is as important to me as my accountancy firm’s services. I’m a writer and I know about writing and communications; I don’t really know about accounting or the intricate details of contracts. So, I need the support of an expert company like Kingsbridge to ensure I’m on track and I’m operating properly.”
So, would she recommend Kingsbridge Contractor Insurance to others? Absolutely. Mrs A states, “Having contractor insurance gives you huge peace of mind that if something does happen, you know you have the right tools in place to deal with it. That’s really important to me in terms of my reputation, my mental health and my business practice.
Insurance sometimes feels like an expense you could do without, but it can give you incredible peace of mind. It’s worth considering whether you want to make the monthly payments to know you are protecting yourself or whether, if you did find yourself in a difficult situation during a contract, you’d have the money in your account to cover the consequences.”
Thank you to Mrs A for sharing her story. We’re happy we could provide the advice she needed to protect her business from demands outside of her contract.
